How is Remote Desktop Commander Lite licensed?
By the number of administrators using the software, up to a certain number of managed devices per administrator.
How is Remote Desktop Commander Suite licensed?
For on-premise networks, by the number of RDS/Citrix servers and workstations that are being monitored by the software.
For MSP networks, by the number of RDS users connecting into the datacenter(s). MSP licenses are handled month-to-month on a subscription basis.
Do I need a separate installation of Microsoft SQL Server to use the Remote Desktop Commander Suite?
If your network contains fewer than 10 RDS/Citrix servers, and you do not want to collect more than 5 days
worth of advanced session performance data from the Remote Desktop Reporter Agent, you can download and install the
Full Build of the Remote Desktop Commander Suite, which includes a built-in version of Microsoft SQL Server Express.
However, if you have a larger network, or need a much larger history of performance data, please configure Remote
Desktop Commander to use a standard version of Microsoft SQL Server.
I am attempting to monitor Windows workstations with Remote Desktop Commander Lite, and/or am attempting
to collect historical session data from Windows workstations with Remote Desktop Commander Suite, but the information
cannot be polled. What configuration steps do I need to take to poll workstations?
1.) In order for our software to monitor remote desktop sessions remotely and collect session and
program information, the following key and value must be set on the client workstation:
KEY: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server
VALUE: AllowRemoteRPC must be set to 1
You can apply a Group Policy Object or edit the registry directly (remotely) with Regedit.
2.) If the Windows Firewall is turned on your workstations, make sure you allow exceptions for
Remote Administration (if present), Remote Service Management (if present), and Remote Desktop.
